Ring NO. 46, OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Seymour Davis Ring
Meets 7:00 pm, 1st Monday of the month at the New Beginning Fellowship Church, 15601 S. Pennsylvania in OKC
LEE WOODSIDE, Secretary. Email: WoodsideLee@hotmail.com.
President Cassidy Smith introduced Lee Woodside as the featured performer for October. Lee performed his latest creation, “Unrepentant.” He asked David Teeman to name a number between one and ten; David said, “Eight.” Lee handed David a packet of Tarot cards wrapped in paper and asked him to remove the cards and count to the eighth card. David unfolded the paper the cards had been wrapped in and read the prediction, which matched exactly.
Cassidy Smith led a discussion on effects which are stand-alone as opposed to part of a longer routine and have a strong climax. He asked the group for their input. The last suggestion was “The Bullet Catch,” which definitely has a strong impact. Cassidy then showed some magic sets he owns which are based on super-heroes, such as Spider Man and Black Panther. These contain standard tricks which are embellished with the hero’s special powers. Cassidy then took out a deck of cards. As he told the story of how a deck of playing cards has much in common with a calendar, he produced cards to highlight the story.
David Teeman treated us to a presentation of what he calls his “front porch magic show.” He performs this multiple times each Halloween as he gives out candy to the trick-or-treaters. This ended with a box from which the previous “goblins” took all the candy. However, with the right magic words, candy fills the box. He then showed off several decorative items he had purchased at Dollar Tree, including some very realistic look chains a shackles.
Bruce Rodesney, who goes by the stage name “B,” performed a very well-rehearsed Zombie ball routine. No one could remember seeing a Zombie routine in the last decade. What’s old is new again.
Fourteen-year-old Manning Kalina, who was making his first visit to a magic club, said that he had been studying magic for three and half months. We encouraged him to perform for us. Manning performed a perfect pressure fan and invited Cassidy Smith to choose any card. Cassidy chose the eight of diamonds. Cassidy replaced the card and Manning shuffled the deck. He picked up the top card and showed it to be the four of hearts. He handed the four to Cassidy face down and asked that Cassidy place it between his palms. After a magical gesture, Manning showed that the four of hearts had returned to the tops of the deck. Cassidy looked at the card he was holding and found it to be his chosen card.
