Ring NO. 46, OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Seymour Davis Ring
Meets 7:00 pm, 1st Monday of the month at the New Beginning Fellowship Church, 15601 S. Pennsylvania in OKC
LEE WOODSIDE, Secretary. Email: WoodsideLee@hotmail.com.
President Cassidy Smith led off our January meeting as the featured performer. He began with a three-ring linking ring routine. Next he added a loop of rope and linked and unlinked the rope to a ring. He untied the rope and tossed it into a paper sack. After an incantation, he withdrew the rope and showed that it was “Tide” in the middle.
Cassidy asked Justin Teeman to select a card and to show it around while Cassidy’s back was turned. He withdrew a pocket mirror and got laughs as he tried to view the selection. The card was returned to the deck and Cassidy produced several Aces, each of which Justin said was not his selected card. Finally, Cassidy removed the mirror from his pocket and showed that the Queen of Spades, the selected card, was now on the face of it. Cassidy started some music and performed a silk fountain routine, culminating in a silk scarf that proclaimed “The End.”
Cassidy went over the schedule of meetings for 2025. He then asked the audience what they wanted to learn in the New Year. Several members responded with their magical goals for the year.
Our business meeting was very brief, as usual. Cassidy told us about the opportunity for a lecture by Gregory Wilson. Eight people volunteered to sponsor the lecture, so it will happen.
Brian Tabor demonstrated the effect Liquify. He transformed a puddle of white fluid in his hand into a finger ring. He said his only complaint with the trick is that it does not support the use of a red liquid. He said that ketchup is almost always available and would be very visual.
David Teeman asked Bruce Rodesney to join him “on stage.” He showed Bruce several cards with images on them that he had removed from a black bag. He asked Bruce to select one of the cards and Bruck selected the horseshoe. David dumped out the remaining contents of the bag, which proved to be a poker chip, The poker chip came from the Horsehoe Casino in Las Vegas.
Derrick Beeson showed off the effect “Repo,” which consisted of a small chain and a small key. He linked the key onto the chain and then it melted off the chain.
Bruce Rodesney set up a laptop computer and showed video from one of our Pandemonium of Magic public shows from many years ago. John Pansze introduced Bruce and Bruce performed an illusion using a blanket. Twice he attempted to produce a tiger and failed. Finally, he went under the blanket and appeared to be in a fight for his life. When he came out, his clothes were all in tatters, apparently ripped to shreds by the “tiger.”
Bruce then amazed us with his thimble magic and by the divination of a number being thought of by everyone in the audience.
Lee Woodside passed out copies of the novels Dracula and Frankenstein forthe audience members to examine while he talked about history the books. He asked Derrick Beeson to select either book and join him “on stage.” Lee leafed through the book and asked Derrick to stop him at any point. (This was not a page force.) He asked Derrick to remember the first word on the page and Lee was then able to divine the word. Lee asked if any of the audience members found anything suspicious in their examination of the books and only David Teeman said that he did.
