Vice President Justin Teeman called the June meeting to order. He then gave a recap of Lance Pierce’s “Pebblepalooza” magic weekend that he and his dad recently attended. He praised the lecture by Chad Long and name dropped Michael Weber and Bill Malone as attendees.

June is the month of our annual Close-Up contest. Members compete for cash prizes and bragging rights.

Cassandra Crowe selected playing cards randomly from a deck and asked Grant Vinson to tell her whether he believed them to be red or black. Cassandra placed the reds and blacks into different piles. At the conclusion, it was found that Grant had one hundred percent success! It was out of this world.

David Teeman brought out two decks of Fox Lake playing cards. He spread the cards from one deck and invited Rick Martin to touch the back of one card, which proved to be the three of clubs. He then asked Rick to take the other deck out of the box and spread it. There was one face-up card, which was also the three of clubs. David then showed two decks he had purchased at Dollar Tree: a “Batman” deck and an “Avengers” deck. He performed the same effect he had shown with his Fox Lake decks.

Grant Vinson had Rick Johnson take a card, sign it, and return it to the deck. Grant returned the deck to the card box. He then introduced us to his “bad ass” stuffed rabbit and removed a switchblade knife from it. He stabbed the deck with the knife and pulled it out of the deck sideways. The three of spades that Rick had signed was stuck on the blade of the knife.

Lee Woodside told the story of Timmy’s encounter with a Leprechaun. The wee one changed Timmy’s copper coins into silveer, but alas, the next morning the coins were again copper. Lee then performed his “Leprechaun Seance,” where a card chosen by Grant Vinson was divined using a leprechaun’s business card, but only after holding the little guy’s feet to the fire.

Shaun Clark showed a stopwatch with a rotating bezel. He demonstrated how the watch worked and, after moving the bezel, asked Rick Johsnon to hold the watch face down and start, then stop the stopwatch. Sure enough, the hand lined up with where Shaun had set the bezel.

Rick invited Jim Green to select a card, with was returned to the deck face up. Rick removed the selected card and the two cards on each side. Rick then invited Grant Vinson to look at a social media post that Rick had created hours ago. The photos matched the cards. Rick then performed an ACAAN (any card at any number) routine.

The scores were tabulated during the break. After the break, Justin announced that Rick Johnson won third place, Lee Woodside won second place, and David Teeman was the contest winner.
