Our September meeting was devoted entirely to our annual magic flea market and auction. David and Justin Teeman opened the venue early so that tables could be set up with items to be sold. We had a great turnout.
After an hour of looking at one another’s “stuff,” the auction began at 7:30 pm. Our long-time auctioneer, Lee Woodside, explained the rules of the “appraisal” auction. There were no minimum bids, but when the high bid was reached, the seller had the option of selling the item to the high bidder or paying him fifty cents for “appraising” his item. Interestingly, this option was not invoked once during the entire evening.
Everyone had a great time and a lot of magic books and props went to new homes. It was especially enjoyable because we were unable to hold the auction last year because of COVID.
