A large group of Ring 46 members showed up for the Penguin Magic session held in Oklahoma City. Michael Ammar proved that he is one of the great teachers in magic today. He presented a combination of his well-honed material along with some newer ideas. It was refreshing to see quite a bit of parlor and stage magic rather than all close-up magic as many lecturers concentrate on these days. If Penguin Magic comes to a city near you, I highly recommend that you participate.
Our December meeting theme was the annual Holiday Party and stage/parlor magic contest. We had some great food and fellowship and then enjoyed some great magic.
Mike Stelzer and his diminutive sidekick presented a comedy vent routine that included mindreading. Terry “Mr T Lo” Losawyer performed a cards across miracle.
J. David Teeman used a change bag as a butterfly net to catch a beautiful butterfly silk scarf, with lots of comedy byplay along the way. Lee “Captain Lee” Woodside presented a comedy magical medicine show.
Jay Relkin presented a bill to impossible location, with half of each of two borrowed one-dollar bills ending up in a freely selected peanut. (He learned this from Michael Ammar at the Penguin event.)
Darryl Brooks placed a silk scarf in a fruit jar and covered the top of the jar with a bandana and secured it with a rubber band. Under these seemingly impossible conditions, he was able to remove the scarf from the jar.
Michael “The Amazing Michael” Stephanic had three volunteers each randomly select a one-dollar bill. Parts of each of the serial numbers were combined to form a new random serial number, which proved to match the prediction that Michael had made prior to the show.
When the votes were tallied, first place was awarded to Michael Stephanic. Terry Losawyer took second place and Lee Woodside won third place.
