Our July meeting was our annual meeting where a lecture is free to all paid-up members. With our very own Lance Pierce as lecturer, we had a great turnout and even picked up some new members.
Lance started with a routine called “Find the White Knife” that was presented as a con game. As the white knife kept vanishing, he would pull it once again from his pocket, until he ended up with four knives. As a kicker ending, he showed that he actually had six knives and the white knife visibly changed into a red one.
Lance then performed a routine he called “Full Circle” where a one-dollar bill magically appeared from nowhere at his fingertips, then changed into a $100 bill, and finally vanished as mysteriously as it had appeared.
After showing a coin routine, Lance performed a very nice “Wildcard” routine and ended his lecture material with a coin routine involving a silver half-dollar, an English copper coin and a Mexican copper coin. More interesting than the technical explanations was Lance’s thought behind the routines. He leads his audience on a wild magical journey with lots of surprises along the way. Lance considers himself a student of magic and puts a lot of thought into what he does. He likes to look at a routine through the eyes of his audience and tune it for maximum impact.
Following the lecture, Lance performed some pet routines without explanations. He showed a very nice blank deck routine, a coins across, a cut to the aces, and ended with stabbing a card within a shuffled deck through a paper bag.
If you get the opportunity to see Lance Pierce lecture, don’t pass it up. You’re bound to improve your magical thinking and learn some valuable insights from a master.
