Our 2026 Pandemonium of Magic public show was a rousing success! President Cassidy Smith emceed the festivities. The performers were Rick Johnson, David Teeman with his assistants Brynna and Braylee, Bruce Rodesney (also known as “B”), John Shack, Lee Woodside (performing as Captain Lee), Shaun Clark, and Kevin and Mollie Brasier.

Lee Woodside led off the July meeting as featured performer. Lee explained the meaning of the colors of the American flag as he placed red, white and blue silk scarves into his “change bag.” Then with a magical word, the “change bag” morphed into a giant American flag. Lee then demonstrated how he uses a “What’s Next” prop to tell about his early days in magic.

Jim Green passed a loop of rope through Bob Caldwell’s arm. Jim then brought out a long cord with a coffee mug tied to one end and a large washer tied to the other. He held a wand in one hand and placed the cord over the wand while he held the washer in the other hand. When he released the washer, the cord wrapped around the wand and the mug did not fall as one would expect. Jim said this feat was most impressive when the host’s fine china cup is used.

Cassidy Smith led a discussion on what makes a good trick for children. We also discussed what are some of the classic kids’ tricks.

David Teeman said that the magician doesn’t pick the wand, the wand picks the magician.

He then showed us the one that chose him, a large wand with a toilet plunger on one end. David showed a box with several different colored blocks which were held in by a dowel. He removed the dowel, dumped out the blocks, and asked Cassidy Smith to choose two of the blocks. Cassidy chose the red and green ones. David placed all the blocks back into the box and trapped them with the dowel rod. However, when he tipped the box, the red and green blocks fell onto the table. David then performed the classic coloring book effect.

Bruce Rodesney (AKA “B”) performed Pavel’s classic color changing .45 rpm records. Unfortunately, many of today’s youth have no idea what a vinyl record is. Bruce showed items he used to hand out during his magic shows: magic fish and a legal-size paper showing tricks laymen can perform.

Bruce finished by showing a square of plexiglass on which he placed a drinking glass. He covered the glass with a silk scarf and showed that he could control whether a kid could lift the glass or not.
