We don’t get the chance to see Malaki (AKA David Swanson) very often since he moved to Enid, OK. We were, therefore, very excited that he was able to drive down to be our featured performer and lecturer for the November meeting. He has a completely developed character as a 13th Century traveler who went with Marco Polo to China and dresses in Chinese clothing from that period.
Malaki dazzled us with thimble magic and then performed the dagger through mirror and the 20th (or, in his case, 13th) Century Silks. He then showed us a wide range of thimble moves that he employs, from the relatively easy to the very difficult.
Malaki showed us the beautiful wands that he turns with his lathe and several utility devices that he makes. He also showed off his leather magic bag that won him an award at the state fair for his leather tooling.
We elected officers for 2015. The results were: President – Cassidy Smith; Vice President – Justin Teeman; Secretary – Lee Woodside; and Treasurer – Michael King.
Our performance theme for the evening was “Best and Worst.” Lee Woodside got a big laugh when he showed the thumb tips he claimed to have ordered on the Internet. They were actually wooden carved thumbs that had nails protruding from them, which are supposed to be “thumb tacks.”
J. David Teeman showed a variety of packet tricks, irregular decks, and gaffed decks that he had found. He also showed a packet trick holder that was dedicated to Arthur Emerson at the TAOM this year.
